This is a flat which is situated in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, between Notting Hill and Holland Park.

It is a small project, yet interesting and rather ambitious from a design perspective, with thoughtful attention to detail and bespoke features.

The client´s instructions are to produce a clean and simple design, where the details are important and play the main role, using materials such as wood, wool, marble and porcelains, and to optimise the space, paying special attention to bathrooms, lighting design, and finishes.

ALEZ Architects’ main challenge in this project was to organise the space to optimise natural light, views and built-in storage, and to co-ordinate all the complex detailing that can be found in joinery items and bathrooms.

It was also crucial to keep all the construction costs within the budget while using good quality materials strategically and wisely, and to develop a luxury but simple, sober and warm atmosphere.

There is a thoughtful relationship between alcoves, mirror cabinets and vanity units in order to optimise the bathroom space which was rather  constrained. The main feature of this project is the use of wood and its combination with an original 100% wool carpet finish called “tweed”. These two elements link the flat with its broader context and English tradition, yet in a contemporary style.
