This is a semi-detached Victorian house which is situated in the Muswell Hill Conservation Area.
This project is ambitious, and is based on two fundamental requirements: to connect the kitchen, dining-room, games room and garden spatially and visually – these areas being on different levels – and to increase the property’s usable area by building a basement extension which will house utility and storage areas.
In traditional properties which were built in the Edwardian and Victorian periods it is common to find rooms on different levels. This provides the opportunity to create a diaphanous, open plan space which is open at different levels and heights, and is of great interest spatially, as can be seen in the pictures.
This house is ideal for family life, because parents or other adults can watch over the children while they play, and while others are cooking in the kitchen or chatting in the dining-room.
