Work in Progress-Massing

We have proposed to conform to the existing patterns in terms of massing, volume and roofing. In order to achieve this, the best solution is a pair of new, semi-detached houses which matches massing, appearance and size with the adjoining constructions, resulting in the appropriate scale and density for the area.

The new dwellings will be well integrated into the existing community. Roof forms are proportionate to the mass of the associated building and conform to the design of the proposal. Pitched roofs are commonly associated with suburbia, and are found in this area. The relationship with the existing built forms ensures adequate daylight and sunlight for the future residents, and that there is no unreasonable loss of light for neighbours.

The positioning of windows and doors within the new dwellings has also been carefully considered, so as to provide relief from the materials incorporating the bulk of the building envelope. This regular pattern of windows and doors is a key characteristic of the surrounding area.
